Check for ID
- Look for a tag or collar with a phone number, address, or microchip ID.
- If there’s a tag, call or text the owner immediately — most are nearby and panicking!
Scan for a Microchip
- Take the pet to any vet clinic, animal shelter, or fire station — most will scan for free.
- Ask for the microchip number and manufacturer (e.g., HomeAgain, 24PetWatch, Avid, AKC Reunite).
- Go to www.petmicrochiplookup.org
Check Lost Pet Reports
- Search on:
- PawBoost.com
- Petco Love Lost
- Local Facebook, Instagram “Lost and Found Pets” pages
- Nextdoor or Ring Neighbors app
- Compare photos and details — owners often post right after a pet goes missing.

Keep the Pet Safe
If you can temporarily house them:
- Keep them separate from your pets until vet-checked.
- Provide food, water, and a quiet place to rest.
- If you can’t hold them, a local rescue or shelter can safely do so.
Remember
Reuniting pets with their families is just as powerful as rescuing them — you might be the reason a family’s heartbreak turns to joy.
